Argonia is the island home of the Argonian people. For centuries they inhabited the coastal areas around the islands from which they came. However the voracious nature of the humans of Romulus demanded that they be conquered and made into slaves.
Originally a southern group of Lizardfolk, the Argonians broke from the marauding nature of their northern cousins and settled into farming and fishing villages. This led to trade and then culture emerged. However given the long lived and strong nature of the Argonians, when the Romans arrived they were seen as ideal slave race. The small tribes and factions of the Argonians were easy pickings for the highly organised might of the Romans. Eventually the Argonians lost their lands on the mainland, a nearby town, now called Servidium was converted into a slave market, and by the thousands, Argonians were shipped off to serve the wealthy of Romulus and Agrisos. Many were thrown into the gladiatorial pits.
The Roman fleets came out into the Islands to conquer. It was there that the tide was tuned. Almost literally. One of the ways that turned the Argonians from the barbaric path were the Druids. Argonians have a strong faith in nature, and it was the Druids that helped their culture prosper. When the ships came, so did the druids summon the great creatures of the deep to defend the isles. Sahuagin, Dragon Turtles, Kraken and all manner of beasts rose up and attacked the fleet. The results were devastating to the invaders. Ever since the Druids have held high favour in Argonia, and the Romans have kept their distance. This however has not stopped small pirate and slaver ships from plundering the coast from time to time to steal argonians and sell them in Servidium.
Today Argonians are agrarian in nature, with the different Islands having different rulers and systems of government. A common theme though is trade. About fifty years ago Argonians made their way to Dawnwind and established a southern trade route with the city and the nearby Rakasta Clans. This trade route also connects with the Unruled Lands.
Starting in the town of Conflict, called so because the Argonians created it, the Romans took it and the Unruled lands claim it, it runs up through Heshrel and then north. It is well patrolled by those who maintain an interest in trade, and the Romans do not interfere with Argonian traders, (not openly anyway).
